This paper aimed to analyze the role that Rural Extension Services (RES) play in family farming in Sanga and Muembe districts of Niassa Province in Northern Mozambique. A total of 220 family farmers participated in the research and were selected using simple probabilistic sampling. Data were collected between January and June 2020. SPSS statistical package was used to derive descriptive statistics, the Chi-Square Test, and the t-student. In general, the results indicate that the Rural Extension Services still face many challenges. The results point out increase of crop production, family income, and the number of months of consumption of their food, nonetheless, farmers mentioned that these achievements may not be associated only whit access to extension services. Thus, for the Rural Extension Services to have the desired impact, it is necessary to change the paradigms towards a more humanized extension program to enable the effective participation of farmers in decision-making.
