Abstract

Currently, the posterior atrophic mandible region has become a challenge when it comes to rehabilitation using dental implants. Despite the high success rate of the ideal surgical techniques for each case, we encounter complications in the trans and postoperative period, such as: paresthesia, soft and bone tissue infections, hemorrhage, implant loss and mandibular fracture. The aim of this study was to report a case of fracture of the mandible after rehabilitation of the posterior region of the mandible with transposition of the lower alveolar nerve and installation of dental implants. The patient in the case report presented partial edentulism in the posterior mandible associated with severe vertical bone atrophy. The planning proposed to the patient was the transposition of the inferior alveolar nerve and the installation of dental implants at the same surgical time. Ten days after surgery, the patient was diagnosed with a fracture in the mandibular body region. With this case, it can be concluded that the surgical technique of transposition of the lower alveolar nerve has high complexity in its planning and execution, however, when performed correctly and with a technical team qualified to solve the complications, it acts promoting a new possibility of rehabilitation for patients with anatomical, aesthetic and functional limitations.
