La COVID-19 y los niños com enfermidades crónicas: revisión del alcance

Ante el escenario de la pandemia por coronavirus que asola el mundo desde el final de 2019 aún son muchas las incertidumbres que conllevan la enfermedad COVID-19 y el público pediátrico, principalmente los niños portadores de enfermedades crónicas. Teniendo en cuenta esa realidad, el objetivo de este artículo es conocer las publicaciones científicas sobre la COVID-19 en niños con enfermedades crónicas. Se trata de un estudio de revisión sistémica de la literatura del tipo revisión del alcance. La búsquedafue realizada en los meses de mayo a agosto de 2020 en las bases de datos electrónicas Sci Verse Scopus, Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de Salud, Public MEDLINE, Current Nursing and Allied Health Literature y Embase totalizando 5.570 producciones científicas. La muestra final está compuesta por 46 artículos en su totalidad que tuvieron sus contenidos extraídos por categorías conceptuales: susceptibilidad/factores de riesgo; manifestaciones clínicas; hospitalización; estrategias de cuidado y medidas de precaución ante la COVID-19 en niños con enfermedades crónicas. La investigación permite concluir que niños con enfermedades crónicas representan un grupo de la población que puede presentar un riesgo aumentado para complicaciones de la COVID-19. Sin embargo, los estudios analizados demuestran que no hay motivos para suspender el tratamiento de niños con enfermedades crónicas durante la pandemia y que es fundamental evaluar el riesgo versus el beneficio de empezar o mantener el tratamiento en casos de niños infectados de COVID-19.
