Relación entre la ingesta de vitamina C y las enzimas antioxidantes en mujeres obesas

Resumen

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la relación entre la ingesta dietética de vitamina C y la actividad de las enzimas antioxidantes en mujeres obesas. Se trata de un estudio de casos y controles, en el que participaron 62 mujeres, de entre 20 y 50 años, divididas en dos grupos: grupo control (mujeres eutróficas, n = 40) y grupo de casos (mujeres obesas, n = 22). Se tomaron medidas de peso y altura para calcular el índice de masa corporal, así como la ingesta estimada de calorías, macronutrientes y vitamina C. Además, se recolectaron muestras de sangre de los participantes para un análisis adicional de la actividad eritrocitaria de las enzimas glutatión peroxidasa y superóxido dismutasa. Los datos se analizaron con el programa estadístico SPSS para Windows 22.0. En cuanto a los resultados, se observó una diferencia estadísticamente significativa con respecto al consumo de carbohidratos y lípidos (p <0.05), siendo menor en el grupo de casos. Además, las mujeres obesas ingirieron menos vitamina C que el grupo de control (p <0,05). La actividad de la enzima glutatión peroxidasa fue similar entre los grupos, por otro lado, se observó una actividad reducida de la enzima superóxido dismutasa en mujeres obesas (p <0,05). No hubo correlación entre los parámetros de vitamina C y enzimas antioxidantes en los grupos. Así, se concluye que la ingesta de vitamina C no pareció influir en la actividad de las enzimas antioxidantes.
