Resumen

Este trabajo tiene como objetivo realizar una revisión de los principales cambios de comportamiento del gato, discutiendo de forma objetiva y clara sobre sus posibles causas, formas de prevención y tratamiento, así como un breve resumen sobre las necesidades básicas para el bienestar del felino. Se realizó una revisión narrativa, utilizando artículos científicos, monografías, tesis y disertaciones publicados y disponibles en bases de datos en línea: Periodical Capes (Coordinación para el Perfeccionamiento del Personal de Educación Superior), SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) y Google Scholar, además libros específicos sobre el tema. La agresión fue el cambio relacionado con el comportamiento del gato más estudiado y discutido en la literatura consultada, seguido del rascado en lugares inaceptables y la eliminación en lugares inapropiados. Se observó que el descuido de las necesidades básicas de los felinos es la principal causa de cambios de comportamiento y que los guardianes deben ser conscientes de las necesidades alimentarias, de manejo y ambientales de los gatos domésticos. Es de destacar que el abordaje proactivo del veterinario es de fundamental importancia, especialmente en el proceso de sensibilización del tutor, en la enseñanza sobre el manejo adecuado, sobre el enriquecimiento ambiental y en la búsqueda de enfermedades no diagnosticadas, con el fin de minimizar los trastornos relacionados con el comportamiento felino, el abandono y la eutanasia.
