Efecto de las láminas espectrales sobre los parámetros visuales y la lectura: Revisión integrativa de 1980 a 2008

Personas con estrés visual, síndrome de Irlen, utilizan láminas espectrales (overlays) para reducir la distorsión visual y evitar la incomodidad visual mientras leen. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo realizar una revisión integrativa desde 1980 hasta 2008 sobre el efecto de los overlays sobre los parámetros visuales y la capacidad lectora, resumiendo los principales resultados de cada artículo. Se incluyeron 36 artículos, leídos en su totalidad, que usó los Irlen Overlays o los Intuitive Overlays. La década de 1980 se caracterizó por la creación de los Irlen Overlays por la psicóloga Helen Irlen, así como las primeras investigaciones y disertaciones. La década de 1990 estuvo marcada por la creación de los Intuitive Overlays, el Test de Tasa de Lectura y estudios científicos con mayor rigor metodológico. La década de 2000 se caracterizó por la consolidación de estudios internacionales sobre el estrés visual y el efecto de las láminas espectrales, especialmente en Inglaterra y Australia. Este resumen de las tres primeras décadas de investigación sobre el uso de overlays ofrece un marco temporal importante de los estudios que precedieron al inicio de la investigación en Brasil. Se ha demostrado que el uso de overlays está respaldado en la literatura como una herramienta de intervención eficiente para reducir el estrés visual y mejorar la lectura. Se espera contribuir con el rescate histórico de estas investigaciones para que los estudios futuros cuenten con diseños que reproduzcan estudios internacionales y que superen las limitaciones metodológicas inherentes.
