La enfermedad celíaca y sus manifestaciones orales: una revisión de la literatura

Resumen

Objetivo: El presente estudio pretende poner de manifiesto el conocimiento actual y las evidencias de la literatura sobre las presentaciones orales de la enfermedad celíaca. Metodología: La búsqueda se realizó en las bases de datos PubMed/MedLine y en la literatura gris (Scholar Google) en septiembre de 2021. Se utilizó el Medical Subject Headings (MeSH - Pubmed) para definir los descriptores, en inglés y portugués, y la estrategia de búsqueda recuperó sólo estudios con seres humanos. Los descriptores aplicados fueron: "enfermedad celíaca", "anomalías dentales", "defectos del esmalte" y "manifestaciones orales". Se examinaron los artículos publicados en los últimos diez años. Resultados: Se encontraron un total de 23 artículos, de los cuales se eligieron 14 para su revisión. El estudio contó con una muestra compuesta por 2323 pacientes. Conclusión: El reconocimiento de las manifestaciones orales de la enfermedad celíaca desempeña un papel fundamental en el diagnóstico precoz de esta enfermedad. Este estudio evidenció una asociación significativa entre los defectos de desarrollo del esmalte, la estomatitis aftosa y la xerostomía como signos sugestivos de la manifestación de la enfermedad celíaca.
