Resumen

El cáncer de cuello uterino es causado únicamente por la infección persistente del Virus del Papiloma Humano (VPH), considerado el agente etiológico de la enfermedad y transmitido a través de relaciones sexuales sin protección. La autotoma de cuello uterino es una alternativa para aumentar la cobertura de los programas de tamizaje en varios países. Se verificaron algunos artículos que demuestran la aceptabilidad de este dispositivo de auto-recolección, mostrando la capacidad de superar las barreras que impiden un tamizaje cervical eficiente. Actualmente se han identificado estudios a nivel mundial que demuestran la necesidad de implementar tecnologías alternativas que faciliten la recolección de cuello uterino y que incrementen la capacidad de detección por vías moleculares con el fin de minimizar el tiempo de intervención para minimizar la evolución de la infección por VPH y la evolución del cáncer de cuello uterino.
