Inmunomodulación por microfilarias y su implicación en la reacción inmune frente a diferentes antígenos vacunales

Resumen

Este estudio aborda las Mansonellas, que se encuentran entre las causas más comunes de parásitos sanguíneos y están ampliamente distribuidas en África y América Latina. En este contexto, este trabajo tiene como objetivo discutir la inmunomodulación producida por la mansonelosis y su implicación en la reacción inmune frente a diferentes antígenos vacunales. Para lograr este objetivo, se utilizó una metodología para la investigación bibliográfica con la ayuda de los sitios web Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde, Scielo – Scientific Electronic Library Online, Lilacs – Centro Latino-Americano e do Caribe de Informação em Ciências da Saúde y NIH -NCBI-Pubmed – Centro Nacional de Información Biotecnológica – Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina. En estos sitios se utilizaron los siguientes descriptores: Filaria, Inmunología, Mansonelas y Vacuna. La inmunomodulación producida por los nematodos filariales los predispone a propagarse a otros antígenos no filariales. Por tanto, la infección por filarias puede tener una profunda implicación en la reacción inmunitaria frente a otros antígenos, ya sean vacunas, alérgenos ambientales u otras infecciones. Así, la inmunosupresión parece ser la clave en las infecciones crónicas por filarias, donde los parásitos utilizan diferentes mecanismos altamente efectivos para promover su supervivencia. Como resultado, estas infecciones terminan presentando una característica sumamente relevante, que es su propensión a inducir efectos reguladores sobre una variedad de respuestas inmunes, incluidas las respuestas a vacunas y otros agentes infecciosos.
