Resumen

The brain abscess is an expansive lesion and posses the majority of its manifestations derived from the mass effect on the brain parenchyma. This presentation is generally constituted by the triad: headache, fever and focal neurological deficits, therefore, the literature currently establishes that this relationship has greater specificity than sensitivity, given that most two patients do not present the triad or diagnosis. Nesse address, and seen that the alteration of the mental state is of greater coerence to the expansive effect of the lesion, being considered an association of greater representativeness of the cerebral abscess. Necessarily, neuroimaging techniques are performed in patients who present acute or chronic infectious conditions originating from possible sources of contamination, associated with symptoms such as seizures, focal neurological deficits or symptoms of increased intracranial pressure. In this way, the neuroradiological diagnosis distinguishes the lesion that presents as a hypodensity on CT, hypointensity on RMT1 and hyperintensity on RMT2 and FLAIR, associated with an enhancement border, characteristic of brain abscess and important non-differential diagnosis.
