Evaluación de riesgos para el desasrrollo de trastornos respiratorios del sueño en pacientes de edad avanzada

Resumen

Este estudio tiene como objetivo evaluar el riesgo de desarrollar apnea obstructiva del sueño (AOS) en pacientes adultos mayores atendidos en unidades básicas de salud. Se trata de una investigación cuantitativa, transversal, cronológica, de carácter descriptivo, con evaluación de individuos mayores de 60 años, del interior de la Amazonía, de ambos sexos, aprobada por el Comité de Ética en Investigación. La muestra fue reclutada de forma no probabilística, seleccionada con ayuda del Equipo de Salud de la Familia en el período comprendido entre marzo y junio de 2022. Se utilizó un cuestionario elaborado por los autores, que incluye: índice de masa corporal (IMC), cuestionario Berlín y Stop-Bang, puntuación de Mallampati e índice de desaturación de oxígeno (ODI). Fueron seleccionados 38 ancianos, con índice de masa corporal medio de 28,0 kg/m2 (DE: 24,2-32,9), indicando que la mayor parte de la muestra presentaba sobrepeso. Al dividir a los ancianos en normopeso y sobrepeso, los ancianos con sobrepeso y obesos tenían tres veces más probabilidades de tener eventos respiratorios nocturnos (p: 0,0466). A continuación, se observó que existe una correlación entre el índice de masa corporal y el índice de desaturación de oxígeno, donde el resultado expuso una analogía positiva moderada en la muestra general (r=0.53), es decir, a mayor IMC, mayor cantidad de eventos respiratorios encontrados en los ancianos. Se encontraron resultados similares (r: 0,75) al observar los grupos de IMC alto y circunferencia normal.
