Asociación entre la escolaridad, la enfermedad psiquiátrica y el rendimiento cognitivo en los ancianos en medio de la pandemia de COVID-19

Resumen

Objetivo: Evaluar la asociación entre desempeño cognitivo (atención y orientación, memoria, fluidez verbal, lenguaje y habilidades visoespaciales), escolaridad y enfermedad psiquiátrica en ancianos brasileños atendidos en un servicio ambulatorio de un hospital de referencia del SUS. Métodos: estudio cuantitativo, transversal y descriptivo de amuestra por conveniencia, con idos atendidos en el servicio ambulatorio del hospital de referencia del SUS. Se incluyeron 39 ancianos, con edades comprendidas entre los 60 y los 82 años, a los que se les realizaron cuestionarios sociodemográficos, económicos y clínicos, además de una evaluación cognitiva con el Examen Cognitivo de Addenbrooke - Versión Revisada (ACE-R). Resultados: El estudio no mostró ninguna correlación significativa entre el rendimiento cognitivo, la escolaridad y la enfermedad psiquiátrica. Sin embargo, hubo una asociación significativa entre el consumo de alcohol y la memoria, el lenguaje y el género de los ancianos. Conclusiones: El consumo prolongado de alcohol por parte de la población de edad avanzada puede provocar cambios cognitivos, especialmente en el ámbito de la memoria. Del mismo modo, las alteraciones en el lenguaje pueden ser características durante el proceso de desarrollo, por lo que es importante observar estos cambios, ya que pueden ser indicios de alteraciones patológicas.
