La relación entre la hipovitaminosis D y las patologías de pie y tobillo: Una revisión integradora

Resumen

Objetivos: Revisar la literatura disponible sobre la relación entre la hipovitaminosis D y las patologías de pie y tobillo, centrándose en el sistema musculoesquelético y la prevalencia de fracturas, con el fin de investigar el daño causado por niveles bajos de 25-hidroxivitamina D para la salud humana. Metodología: Esta es una revisión integradora. Se seleccionaron artículos de la plataforma PubMed, publicados hasta el año 2023, obtenidos al combinar los descriptores “Deficiencia de vitamina D”, “Patologías”, “Fracturas”, “Pie” y “Tobillo”, que respondieron a la pregunta orientadora: “Hipovitaminosis D y patologías del pie y tobillo, ¿existe relación?”. Resultados: Se incluyeron 22 artículos publicados entre 2009 y 2023 y se extrajeron datos sobre la relación entre la hipovitaminosis D y las patologías en pies y tobillos, agrupando los hallazgos en manifestaciones en el ámbito osteoarticular, muscular y vascular. Las manifestaciones osteoarticulares fueron predominantes, siendo las principales relaciones presentadas tasas más bajas de consolidación de fracturas óseas, mayor tiempo de curación y mayor tasa de refractura. Los hallazgos vasculares vincularon la insuficiencia de vitamina D con la enfermedad arterial periférica. Se abordó el raquitismo y la osteomalacia secundarios al tumor mesenquimal fosfatúrico de los tejidos blandos del pie, condición rara que desencadena hipovitaminosis D. Conclusión: La hipovitaminosis D establece una relación de causa y consecuencia con las patologías del pie y del tobillo, con los sistemas osteoarticular, muscular y vascular siendo los principales afectados.
