Dispositivos electrónicos para fumar: Revisión crítica sobre los impactos en la salud pública

Resumen

Objetivo: Evaluar el impacto que los Dispositivos Electrónicos para Fumar (DEEF) causan en la salud pública, explorando diversas especialidades médicas (neumología, endocrinología, oncología, psiquiatría, cardiología, vascular) y sus consecuencias en las mismas. Metodología: Este artículo es una revisión integradora de la literatura siguiendo las etapas propuestas por Mendes Silveira y Galvão (2008). La investigación se realizó en bases de datos digitales, PubMed y SciELO, abarcando los años de 2021 a 2024, y se analizaron 19 estudios relevantes. Resultados: Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que los DEEF están relacionados con diversos impactos negativos en la salud pública en diferentes especialidades médicas. Las consecuencias más observadas están relacionadas con el sistema respiratorio, como dificultades respiratorias y lesiones pulmonares (EVALI). Conclusión: Aunque inicialmente considerados como alternativas más seguras en comparación con los cigarrillos tradicionales, los dispositivos electrónicos para fumar presentan riesgos significativos. Los hallazgos sobre sus impactos resaltan la necesidad de políticas públicas estrictas y campañas de concientización para minimizar su uso y proteger la salud pública.
