Bactrocera carambolae Drew & Hancock (Diptera: Tephritidae): Riesgos para la Producción Brasileña de Frutas

Resumen

Los insectos plaga representan una fuente importante de pérdidas agrícolas en todo el mundo. Esta situación se maximiza con la introducción de especies fuera de su área natural de ocurrencia, lo que lleva a los países a elaborar listas de cuarentena para proteger su producción nacional y no comprometer sus exportaciones de productos agrícolas. En este sentido, esta investigación busca revisar y analizar el potencial invasivo y los riesgos de Bactrocera carambolae Drew & Hancock 1994 (Diptera: Tephritidae), una plaga importante de la producion mundial de frutas y plaga cuarentena presente en Brasil. Bactrocera carambolae es una especie de mosca de la fruta del sudeste asiático que infesta una gran diversidad de frutas, tanto nativas como de interés económico. En Brasil, su registro inicial está fechado en 1996 en el estado de Amapá, y actualmente más allá de ese estado, se informó en los estados de Pará y Roraima. En el país ya infesta 21 huéspedes, entre ellos acerola, carambola, anacardo, guayaba, mango y mandarina, y tiene el potencial de ingresar a importantes mercados agrícolas, como el polo de frutas de regadío en el Valle de São Francisco. Bactrocera carambolae plantea serios riesgos para la producción brasileña de frutas, principalmente debido a la posible exclusión de los mercados para la exportación de frutas. Por lo tanto, las acciones para controlar y erradicar esta plaga deben mantenerse y mejorarse, buscando evitar daños socioeconómicos severos a la cadena de producción de frutas en Brasil.
