Associação entre frequência de consumo de alimentos ultra processados e sarcopenia em idosos: um estudo transversal

Resumo

Os alimentos ultra processados (UP) são frequentemente associados à má qualidade da dieta e deficientes em muitos nutrientes necessários para a saúde do músculo esquelético, o que pode contribuir para o desenvolvimento da sarcopenia. No entanto, faltam investigações sobre possíveis associações entre a ingestão de UP e sarcopenia. Este estudo teve como objetivo descrever a magnitude da exposição à UP (frequência de consumo) e compará-la em idosos com e sem sarcopenia. Também descreveu associações entre a magnitude da exposição aos UP com marcadores de composição corporal e da sarcopenia em todos os sujeitos. Foi um estudo transversal com amostra de 118 idosos. A composição corporal foi acessada por absorciometria de raios X de dupla energia (DXA) e a ingestão de UP por um questionário de frequência alimentar (QFA). Todos os alimentos do QFA foram categorizados em dois grupos: (1) não UP e (2) UP. O SCORE I (escore médio do grupo 1) e o SCORE II (escore médio do grupo 2) foram calculados. A frequência de consumo de UP foi próxima de 3 a 4x/semana e maior para os sarcopênicos (p<0,05). Indivíduos que consumiram UP mais de 1-2x/semana foram mais propensos a serem sarcopênicos do que aqueles que consumiram menos de 1-2x/semana. Portanto, os indivíduos sarcopênicos foram mais expostos aos UP. Além disso, mesmo em baixa exposição, a ingestão de UP aumentou as chances de desenvolver sarcopenia nos idosos.
