Presença de patógenos periodontais em placentas de mulheres com pré-eclâmpsia: Revisão de literatura

Resumo

Objetivo: Explorar os estudos existentes quanto a associação entre a doença periodontal durante gestação e a pré-eclâmpsia, tendo em vista que trabalhos recentes indicam que patógenos periodontais podem se disseminar pelos tecidos fetais e placentários ocasionando efeitos adversos à saúde do binômio mãe-filho. Método: Revisão de literatura realizada por meio de documentos científicos acessados nas bases de dados MEDLINE, SCIELO e LILACS-BIREME, através dos seguintes descritores: doença periodontal, microbiologia, pré-eclâmpsia e complicações da gravidez. A seleção dos estudos foi realizada através da coleta e análise das referências mais importantes sobre o tema proposto. Revisão de literatura: Os dados coletados mostram que a produção e liberação de mediadores inflamatórios decorrentes da lesão no periodonto desempenham também importante papel na patogênese da pré-eclâmpsia, corroborando esta associação. Discussão: Em adição, bactérias periodontais como Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, Agregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans e Fusobacterium nucleatum ssp têm sido descritas como participantes do processo de desenvolvimento de pré-eclâmpsia em mulheres grávidas com doença periodontal. Conclusão: O conhecimento sobre os efeitos adversos da pré-eclâmpsia em pacientes com doença periodontal pode sugerir contribuições para um efetivo controle pré-natal com maior atenção aos cuidados odontológicos.
