Velocity of deaths and confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil, Italy and worldwide

Objetivo: descrever ajustes de modelos de regressão não linear a velocidades de mortes e de casos confirmados de COVID-19 no Brasil, Itália e no mundo, além de identificar indícios da efetividade do distanciamento social no Brasil. Método: utilizaram-se dados do Ministério da Saúde do Brasil e da Organização Mundial de Saúde. A comparação dos modelos foi realizada pelos critérios de informação de Akaike e Bayesiano. Resultados: a velocidade média de mortes pela COVID-19 no Brasil e na Itália foi estatisticamente igual nos primeiros 15 dias do curso da doença em cada país, mas diferente nos primeiros 25 dias. No Brasil, a taxa de letalidade até o dia 10/04/2020 foi inferior a 5,5% com tendência de aumento linear. Os resultados evidenciaram o crescimento exponencial nas regiões e, para a Itália, as estimativas foram assertivas ao demonstrar redução da velocidade do número de mortes a partir do dia 26/04/2020. Conclusão: Os modelos não lineares utilizados foram adequados para descrever a velocidade de mortes e de casos confirmados de COVID-19. No Brasil a velocidade média de novos casos de COVID-19 até o dia 10/04/2020 foi menor, podendo ter como causa provável, entre outras coisas, o distanciamento social em prática.
