Violence against children and adolescents accompanies human history, and in Brazil, it became more effectively visible with the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA), with the notification of cases of violence in competent bodies being mandatory. Know the profile of violence registered against children and adolescents at the 6th Police Station for the Protection of Women in Florianópolis, SC. It is a cross-sectional descriptive study to investigate cases of reports of violence against children and adolescents registered at the 6th Police Station for the Protection of Women and Adolescents in Florianópolis, from January to December 2002. In 50% of the cases, the aggressors had kinship relationship with children, and 28.8% with adolescents; the predominant violence against children is sexual, and against adolescents, psychological and physical violence were more frequent. About 19.4% of the aggressors of the children were a father and 39.4% of the aggressors of the adolescents had a loving relationship with the victim. Violence against children and adolescents is more common in the domestic environment, and domestic violence permeates a thin layer between what is public and what is private in the family environment and is often difficult to detect, due to the aggressor often having ties of kinship and / or family provider.
