Impacto de la periodontitis en la calidad de vida de pacientes obesos: una revisión sistemática

Resumen

Introducción: La obesidad es una enfermedad crónica y se ha asociado a la enfermedad periodontal. Esta se caracteriza por una inflamación crónica subclínica que puede exacerbar otras enfermedades inflamatorias crónicas como la periodontitis. Objetivo: Fue evaluar si las enfermedades periodontales impactan en la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud bucal en pacientes obesos. Materiales y métodos: esta revisión sistemática siguió las pautas del Centro Nacional de Servicios de Salud para Revisiones y Diseminación (NHS, 2001) y los elementos de informe preferidos para revisiones sistemáticas y metanálisis (PRISMA). Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases de datos PubMed, Scopus y Embase. Los criterios de elegibilidad se definieron en relación con los participantes, las intervenciones, las comparaciones, los resultados y el diseño del estudio (PICOS), siguiendo PRISMA. Resultados: Esta búsqueda se clasificó en la Fase I: donde se realizó la búsqueda, dando como resultado un total de 44 artículos. Después de la lectura de los títulos y resúmenes y teniendo en cuenta los criterios de inclusión, se descartaron un total de 24 artículos, se estudiaron un total de 6 artículos, de los cuales quedaron 5 artículos para el análisis final (Fase II). Conclusión: La calidad de vida de los pacientes obesos se vio impactada por la relación entre la periodontitis y la dieta. Los factores de riesgo que agravan la enfermedad periodontal y la obesidad deben esclarecerse mejor cuando se relacionan con la calidad de vida. Se deben realizar futuros estudios a largo plazo que relacionen la enfermedad periodontal y la calidad de vida en individuos obesos, para explorar los mediadores de los cambios en la calidad de vida y las interacciones con otras variables, como las comorbilidades y la imagen corporal.
