Impactos de la pandemia de COVID-19 en el tratamiento del cáncer de mama: quimioterapia y terapia endocrina

Resumen

Este trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar los cambios en la administración de quimioterapia y terapia endocrina en el cáncer de mama como resultado de los nuevos protocolos creados durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura buscando en la base de datos PubMed. Se incluyeron estudios que analizaron los nuevos protocolos en el tratamiento del cáncer de mama y discutieron su funcionalidad, así como aquellos que observaron intervenciones individuales realizadas por profesionales de la salud durante la pandemia de COVID-19. La búsqueda sistemática totalizó 363 artículos y 41 cumplieron con todos los criterios de inclusión, que involucran palabras clave, tiempo estipulado y base de datos, y no involucran límites de idioma. Los artículos descartados incluían reportes de casos, contenidos sobre cirugías oncológicas, otros tipos de cáncer y tratamientos, y aspectos emocionales y psicosociales de médicos y pacientes. La mayoría de los estudios mostraron adaptaciones en el tratamiento del cáncer de mama durante la pandemia, ya que los profesionales de la salud señalaron la necesidad de evitar que las pacientes acudan a los hospitales y permanezcan allí por un largo período de tiempo, evitando así el contagio por Sars-CoV-2. El principio fundamental de las elecciones fue analizar las ventajas y desventajas de cada terapia y preferir tratamientos con menor riesgo de infección y mielosupresión, en casos de opciones con eficacia similar. Al explorar las diferentes experiencias presenciadas por cada autor, es posible notar los avances científicos y los descubrimientos que este período de pandemia trajo a la sociedad médica, así como el legado que dejará.
