El efecto Werther y su relación con los intentos de suicidio: una revisión narrativa

Resumen

El suicidio es un tema complejo y muchas variables pueden estar involucradas en el problema. Se supone que los casos de intentos de suicidio podrían proporcionar justificaciones para el acto. Así, este estudio buscó encontrar evidencia que apoyara o no la existencia del efecto Werther, o efecto de contagio, en la literatura científica actual. El objetivo de esta revisión narrativa fue comprobar si los datos disponibles confirmaban un aumento de casos o intentos de suicidio tras un primer caso. Los hallazgos indican que el efecto es real y que está muy relacionado con la forma en que se produce la repercusión de un suicidio, en los medios tradicionales o por otros medios. La revisión encontró datos que sustentan la existencia del efecto contagio en varias partes del mundo, en Europa, América del Norte y la mayoría en Asia, lo que indica que el fenómeno no se restringe a una cultura determinada. La revisión narrativa se centró en cuatro bases de datos, en los últimos diez años, en portugués e inglés, y fue evaluada por dos investigadores.
