Actividad antimicrobiana del quitosano asociado a aceites esenciales en aplicación biomédica: una revisión integradora

Resumen

Actualmente, el uso de biomateriales en el área de la salud está en constante evolución. Se sabe que se ha estudiado el desarrollo de materiales utilizando quitosano, un polímero biocompatible con acción antimicrobiana, asociado a aceites esenciales, sustancia natural con numerosas propiedades biológicas y antimicrobianas. Por lo tanto, buscamos verificar en la literatura estudios relacionados con la actividad antimicrobiana de biomateriales a base de quitosano asociados con diferentes aceites esenciales, dirigidos al área de la salud. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica en las bases de datos PubMed y Science Direct, de 2018 a 2022, utilizando los descriptores “Chitosan” AND “Essential Oil” AND “Antimicrobial Activity” AND “Dressing”. En la búsqueda en la base de datos se encontraron un total de 305 artículos, de los cuales ocho artículos fueron incluidos en el estudio, en el que fue posible dividirlos según el producto final en: (1) película; (2) criogel y; (3) andamios nanofibrosos. Las técnicas de análisis antimicrobiano incluyeron la prueba de difusión en agar y la concentración mínima inhibitoria/microbicida. Fue posible verificar que los biomateriales a base de quitosano solos ya mostraron inhibición de las cepas microbianas probadas y, cuando se asociaron con aceites esenciales, hubo un aumento en la acción contra las cepas, haciéndolos prometedores para la aplicabilidad biomédica.
