Mortalidad en el anciano como resultado de la associación de síntomas depresivos y deficiencia de 25(OH)D: una revisión integradora

Resumen

La depresión es una enfermedad que causa gran discapacidad y tiene una alta prevalencia entre los ancianos. También de expresiva distribución es la deficiencia de vitamina D, que favorece el desarrollo de síntomas depresivos. Tanto la depresión como los niveles bajos de vitamina D por sí solos son predictores de una mayor mortalidad. Esta revisión integradora tuvo como objetivo recopilar información sobre la combinación de la deficiencia de vitamina D y la presencia de depresión, y la influencia en la mortalidad en los adultos mayores. Se realizó una búsqueda en las bases de datos electrónicas BVS, Embase, Cochrane y PubMed, sin restricciones de tipo de estudio, idioma o tiempo, con los descriptores “depresión”, “deficiencia de vitamina D”, “ancianos”, “mortalidad”, y sus variaciones. La búsqueda inicial identificó 302 artículos. Después de excluir duplicados y artículos que no incluían todos los descriptores de interés, se incluyeron dos artículos para esta revisión integradora. Se identificó que la población estudiada presentaba niveles bajos de 25(OH)D, y que esto estaba asociado a la aparición de síntomas depresivos. El análisis conjunto de depresión y deficiencia de 25(OH)D, y el impacto en la mortalidad se realizó solo en uno de los artículos. En este estudio, las personas deprimidas con un mayor riesgo de muerte tenían deficiencia de 25(OH)D. En conclusión, hubo asociación entre depresión y niveles bajos de vitamina D, relacionándose con mayor mortalidad. Estas variables son modificables, sin embargo, la literatura presenta pocos datos en este contexto que permitan la toma de decisiones. La investigación adicional en el área puede aclarar la relación entre la depresión, la deficiencia de vitamina D y la mortalidad, y permitir cambios en el curso de este resultado.
