Omega 3 para reducir las enfermedades y aumentar la longevidad: Una revisión de la literatura

Resumen

El presente estudio presenta una revisión de la literatura sobre los ácidos grasos omega-3 y su impacto en la salud y la longevidad. Debido al creciente interés en la promoción de la salud y el envejecimiento saludable, los ácidos grasos omega-3 han ganado un papel importante en la sociedad debido a sus diversos beneficios. Estos ácidos, no sintetizados por el organismo, se adquieren a través de la dieta y destacan por sus efectos antiinflamatorios, cardiovasculares y neuroprotectores, lo que los convierte en objetivos prometedores para intervenciones nutricionales. La revisión analizó 58 artículos de los últimos 5 años, utilizando la base de datos de la Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina (PubMed). Los resultados revelan que el omega-3 se asocia con un riesgo reducido de enfermedad cardiovascular, con efectos beneficiosos sobre la presión arterial, los triglicéridos y la función endotelial. Además, demuestran potentes efectos antiinflamatorios, influyendo incluso en enfermedades como la artritis reumatoide y el cáncer. En el sistema nervioso destaca por sus efectos neuroprotectores, relacionados con la prevención de enfermedades neurodegenerativas y la mejora cognitiva. Aunque se observaron beneficios para la salud ósea, la revisión destaca la necesidad de realizar más investigaciones, reconociendo limitaciones en los estudios como la heterogeneidad en los métodos de investigación. La relación directa entre omega-3 y longevidad exige investigaciones específicas y a largo plazo. En conclusión, este artículo destaca el omega-3 como una intervención prometedora para promover la salud y aumentar la longevidad, sugiriendo su inclusión en la dieta, pero destacando la importancia continua de la investigación para consolidar estos hallazgos.
