El papel de la interleucina-1beta en la fisiopatología de la enfermedad periodontal: una revisión de la literatura

Resumen

Las bacterias involucradas en el proceso inflamatorio gingival inducen respuestas inflamatorias caracterizadas por la liberación de mediadores, por ejemplo, interleucinas, las citocinas involucradas en el curso del desarrollo de la enfermedad periodontal aún no están completamente establecidas. El aumento en la cantidad de interleucina-1beta ( IL-1β) está correlacionado, en la lesión periodontal, con la progresión de la lesión estable a la lesión progresiva. El propósito de esta revisión de la literatura fue evaluar IL-1β y su influencia en el desarrollo de la enfermedad periodontal. Inicialmente, se evaluaron 860 artículos de las siguientes bases de datos en esta revisión de la literatura: Pubmed, Lilacs, Scielo, Web of Science, Embase y Cochrane. Los términos de búsqueda fueron: enfermedad periodontal e IL-1β; periodontitis e IL-1β; salud bucal e IL-1β; gingivitis e IL-1β. Con los criterios adoptados, se incluyeron 28 artículos en esta revisión de la literatura. Los resultados observados mostraron que IL-1β es el que más se relaciona con la actividad de la enfermedad, ya que los pacientes con periodontitis tienen una mayor frecuencia de un genotipo asociado con una mayor producción. Estas citocinas pueden ser generadas por células inmunes, como los linfocitos y monocitos en la cavidad medular o por otras células óseas, particularmente células del linaje osteoblástico. Concluimos que la IL-1β está directamente relacionada con la progresión de la enfermedad periodontal, promoviendo la entrada de células inflamatorias a los sitios de infección y los altos niveles de IL-1β están relacionados con las tasas de hemorragia, la profundidad de sondaje y el nivel clínico de inserción cambiado.
