Mental health and sleep quality among university students in the time of COVID-19 pandemic: experience of a student assistance program

Abstract

This is an experience report about activities of an extension project "Promoting mental health and sleep quality among college students during the pandemic time of COVID-19" performed by a group teacher of the and monitors of the nursing course at a public university of the southwestern region of Bahia, Brazil. The purpose of this report is to present the experience of a group of university professors and a monitor in the construction, implementation and consolidation of an extension project on mental health and sleep quality, in times of the COVID-19 pandemic, among undergraduate students. The topics covered were physical distance and sleep patterns during the pandemic period. In this sense, students reported their experiences and feelings in the face of such a situation that plagued Brazil and the world, as aroutine change, changes in sleep, willing to carry out activities, lack of academic environment and colleagues, quutions related to productivism, reection by family members at risk, among others. Through speeches and careful listening, it was realized that such activities are essential for care related to the mental health of university students, which also has a positive impact on physical health.
