Quality of Life Assessment in patients rehabilitated from head and neck cancer: application of Confirmatory Factor Analysis for construct validation

Abstract

Objective: To apply the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) technique in a quality of life instrument (WHOQOL-bref), validated for the Portuguese language of Brazil, in patients with maxillofacial prosthesis. Method: exploratory study with retrospective collection of 193 patients with maxillofacial prosthesis seen at Fundação Oncocentro de São Paulo, SP, from 2016 to 2019. Demographic data (gender, age over 18 years, federative unit and date of birth) were included to characterize the sample. lifestyle (alcohol and tobacco consumption) and clinics. Medical records with more than 70% of the variables without information were excluded. The WHOQOL-bref instrument was filled in after indicating the prosthesis. Cronbach's alpha was applied to assess internal consistency and Confirmatory Factor Analysis for construct validity. Results: the instrument showed excellent internal consistency regarding its overall score (alpha = 0.82). For Confirmatory Factor Analysis, the parameters showed the feasibility of the analysis (higher = 0.50). Conclusion: the analysis showed that the WHOQOL-bref instrument can be applied to assess quality of life in patients with maxillofacial prosthesis. The use of this instrument allows the comparison of quality of life between different pathologies, as well as evaluation and monitoring of therapeutic processes.

Léslie Piccolotto Ferreira, Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo

Graduated in Speech Therapy from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (1971), Master in Applied Linguistics to Language Teaching from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (1981) and Ph.D. in Human Communication Disorders (Speech Therapy) from the Federal University of São Paulo ( nineteen ninety). She is currently a professor at the Department of Theories and Methods of Speech Therapy and Physiotherapy at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. In the Voice, Communication, Health and Art Research Line, he teaches and guides research on professional voice, especially those related to the teacher's voice. This production helped in the discussions for the recognition of Work-Related Voice Disorder (DVRT). He was president of the Regional Council of Speech Therapy (1989-92), and of the Brazilian Society of Speech Therapy (2002-3). He was Vice President of the Brazilian Society of Speech Therapy - 2017-2019. She is currently scientific editor of the Revista Distúrbios da Comunicação and Coordinator of the Voice Laboratory (LaborVox) at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. He works as a reviewer or member of the Editorial Board of CEFAC, CoDAS, Audiology Communication Research, and Saúde em Revista journals.

Patrícia Rocha dos Santos, Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo

He holds a master's degree in Speech Therapy from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (2018). She is currently a speech therapist at the Municipality of Mauá, a doctoral student in Human Communication and Health at PUCSP and junior editor of the magazine Disturbios da Comunicação. He has experience in the field of Speech Therapy, with an emphasis on Public Health and Home Care, working mainly on the following topics: Speech Therapy, Public Health, Affects, Language and Home Care.

Ana Paula da Silva Tozzo, Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo

Graduated in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of the Sacred Heart (1989). Specialization in Family Health with a Multiprofessional Approach from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (2012). Master's Degree in Speech Therapy from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (2017). Doctorate in Speech Therapy at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (in progress). Graduated in Speech Therapy from the Federal University of Santa Maria (2008), Master's in Human Communication Disorders at the same institution, Specialization in Higher Education Didactics at Nilton Lins University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Communication Disorders at PUC-SP with a CAPES scholarship. for four years as a professor at IES in undergraduate courses in Speech-Language Pathology and post-graduate courses in related areas.

Graduated in Speech Therapy from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo(2012). Improvement in speech therapy at the Sorocaba Association of Hearing Impaired Parents. Master in Speech-Language Pathology with the research line of hearing in children at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (2016). Doctoral student in Speech Therapy in the research line of hearing in children at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. He has experience in the field of speech therapy with emphasis in audiology, working mainly in the following areas: cochlear implant (device programming) and child and adult assessment, audiometry, imitanciometry, otoacoustic emissions and brainstem auditory evoked potential.
