Avaliação in vitro da atividade antimicrobiana dos óleos essenciais de Mentha piperita e Citrus limon contra cepas patogênicas

Resumo

A elevada prevalência de microrganismos resistentes aos antimicrobianos comumente utilizados na prática clínica tem impactado os serviços de saúde devido à redução das opções de tratamento para os pacientes. Dessa forma, pesquisas envolvendo a atividade antimicrobiana de óleos essenciais (OE) tem sido realizadas como possíveis alternativas terapêuticas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi revisar a literatura e determinar experimentalmente a atividade antimicrobiana dos OE de Mentha piperita e Citrus limon frente aos patógenos Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa e Candida albicans. A busca bibliográfica e a seleção de artigos científicos foram realizadas nas bases de dados Pubmed, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde e Scielo, adaptando-se os indexadores para cada base. Foram selecionados artigos completos, de acesso livre e publicados entre 2016 e 2022. A atividade antimicrobiana foi avaliada a partir microrganismos referência através do método de disco-difusão em ágar conforme metodologias preconizadas pelo CLSI e BrCAST. A pesquisa bibliográfica resultou em 533 artigos, dos quais foram selecionados 25 para a análise. A avaliação do OE de M. piperita demonstrou atividade contra E. coli, S. aureus e C. albicans e o OE de C.limon apresentou atividade para C. albicans. Nenhum dos OE testados apresentou atividade contra P. aeruginosa. Os dados deste trabalho destacam o potencial destes OE frente a patógenos importantes para a saúde humana e sugere a necessidade de novos estudos frente a outros patógenos emergentes para a saúde pública, além de melhor compreender a sua aplicabilidade como alternativa natural e segura para o controle das infecções bacterianas e fúngicas.

Graduando em Farmácia na instituição Universidade Federal da Bahia - IMS/CAT - Vitória da Conquista. Atuou como bolsista PIBIC no projeto Avaliação da atividade biológica de plantas medicinais do semi-árido da Bahia sob orientação da doutora Regiane Yatsuda (2019-2022). Além disso, foi bolsista PIBIC no projeto de pesquisa Avaliação do potencial antimicrobiano de óleo essencial de Mentha piperita e Citrus limon sob orientação da doutora Milena Soares dos Santos. Atuação como monitor das seguintes disciplinas durante a graduação: fisiologia humana, patologia, bioquímica clínica, hematologia clínica, e atenção farmacêutica. Atualmente, integra, como presidente, o Centro Acadêmico de Farmácia da Universidade Federal da Bahia - IMS/CAT.
