Studies on intestinal microbiota are being increasingly discussed to show spirituality and the impact it can have on individuals' lives. The modulation of the intestinal microbiota can promote several results in the body, some of which are: better absorption of nutrients, synthesis of vitamins, modulation of the endocrine system and metabolism as a whole. The objective of the study was to analyze the points that prove that the intake of fat and sugar influenced an imbalanced microbiota and that the characteristics of each one occurred for the quality of life in general. The study consists of a narrative review research on the influence of diet on the microbiota and its relationship with obesity. A search was carried out in the databases PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar, as well as books and journals with the descriptors microbiota; modulation; intestine; slimming; circadian cycle; then no; physical activity; inflammation; hormones; stress; probiotics; mitochondria; diet; gluten, foodmap, between the years 2006 and 2023 in Portuguese and English. The results found led to the conclusion that weight loss is one of the conditions where it is possible to notice the importance of maintaining the intestinal microbiota in a healthy way, since, when eating well, practicing physical activity, consuming the ideal amount of water and eating rich in prebiotics, the intestine works properly and increases the chance of better absorbing food, in addition, the intestinal microbiota of an obese individual is different from the intestinal microbiota of a non-obese individual.
